Inirida - Guainia

The municipality of Inirida, also called Puerto Inirida, is the capital city of the Guainia department. Its name was given in honour of the Princess Inirida, who according to local myths is thought to be trapped in the Cerros de Mavicure hills.

Inirida is as well the name of a beautiful exotic flower, which grows in the humid and swampy regions, and which is imprinted in the center of the town’s/DEPARTMENT? flag.

The town of Inirida is located in the frontier with Venezuela, next to the Inirida river, and also close to the limits with Brazil.
In the town’s territory we can fing the rivers of Atabapo, Inirida, and Guaviare, as well as smaller CANHOS Guariben and Bocon, flowing into the Inirida.

Its population, as in most of the Guainia department, is mostly indigenous.
The town has an altitute of 100 mts with a warm tropical weather and an average temperature of 27C. Its economy is based in agriculture, mining and fishing.

Masacabi Lagoon

Maraviso military base, from where it is possible to observe the encounter between the Atabapo, Guaviare and Orinoco rivers, known as the Fluvial Star of the East, where visitors can appreciate the different water colors coming together.

The pink dolphins or “toninas” living in its rivers.

Its beatiful landscapes

Its outstandings sunsets.

Its rich flora and fauna.

Cerros de Mavicure hills.

The police inspection of La Guadalupe, in the limits with Brazil and Venezuela, from where the Cocuy stone can be appreciated.

The Inirida flower, found in the wild, with different tones of colors along its almost one year long life.

Access:
By air: There is regular small aircraft flights to-from its airport.

By land: There is almost no road network in the area, with only a few roads, not in good state and only open in the summer season. Access by land is not recommended.

By water: Its rivers are its main transit network, connecting Inirida with other settlements in the Guainia department, and with Villavicencio, the capital of the Meta department.
