Santa Marta

Founded in 1525 by Rodrigo Bastidas it is the oldest city in Colombia and the actual capital of Magdalena deparment. It is recognized as a touristic city, with a wide variety of options, ranging from historical tourism to adventurous and ecological  tourism. It has an average temperature of 28C and an altitude of just 4 meters above sea level.

The city is located in one of the most beautiful touristic beaches of Colombia,  famous for its museums and historical sites. The area facing the ocean is called El Malecon, and it is the most busy district of the city.

The architecture in Santa Marta is also very representative of the colonial period, and there is many old houses with big gardens, colourful balconies and lots of plants. One of the most famous sites in Santa Marta because of its historical importance is the Quinta de Bolivar.

Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino

The liberator Simon Bolivar spend his last days in this house before he died in 1830. It is now used as a museum, as well as a Latin-American art gallery.
